Advanced Community Network Sponsor Suga Productions

Suga Productions is run by Multimedia Artist and Entertainer Mo Brown "Suga" who is a host, actress, voice-over artist, film director/producer for Suga Productions as well as a music producer, screenwriter & founder of natural skin and health care brand, Mo Body Butter.

We are fortunate to have her working with us as a leader and mentor in the internship portion of our program.

In the past few years she has managed several interns, including her current social media intern Aneesa Thomas who is a part of our 6th Cohort. Aneesa stated "Ms. Brown strives to advance the minds of young adults by embodying an ambitious spirit that encourages the youth to reach their ultimate potential. Her lessons, stories, and skills have shown me the importance of hard work and the various factors it takes to make positive progress in this world. She has even supported me in moving closer to my dreams by connecting me with knowledgeable and caring individuals. She goes above and beyond for her people and continuously pushes towards positive outcomes."

Worksite Spotlight: SUGA Productions

Written by Darrel Tiebout, Workforce Coordinator

SUGA Productions founded by Ms. Mo Brown who is also the President and CEO at SUGA Productions has worked closely with OBT over the past 4 years posing as an internship site for our digital marketing and YPI participants. Mo Brown is at the helm as one of our most charismatic site supervisors. The benefit of Ms. Mo Brown charm and passion is that our participants mirror her work readiness approach in the professional arena. Mo Brown has a passion for the entertainment business, but her heart goes out to the young people that she brings on as production assistants, writers, editors, video technicians and digital marketing assistants. In two cohort SUGA Productions has afforded 12 different interns the opportunity to render services at SUGA Productions.

The interns adore working at this site. It has been said that the life experiences are far more powerful than the technical experiences at SUGA Productions. This is attributed to Ms. Mo Brown genuine concern for populations that are deemed at risk and/or disenfranchised. SUGA Productions have cared for our interns as though they are “At Promise” and not at risk as the system sometimes dictates. I have witnessed Ms. Mo Brown conversing with our interns about real life situations. She creates a comfortability that motivates the interns to be at their very best while at work. SUGA Productions has the motivation piece down to a science. The interns constantly speak about meaningful experiences while working at SUGA Productions.

It should be mentioned that Ms. Mo Brown does remain in contact with the interns upon completion of the mandated 250 hours at a respective worksite. SUGA Productions have incorporated their very own retention pool. This pool is inclusive of following up with interns, introducing interns to employment opportunities and advance training in the entertainment business and just reaching out to listen to interns’ concerns and highlights. This approach from SUGA Productions is very much in sync with OBT’s supportive services component.

OBT would like to applaud SUGA Productions and MO Brown for all the hard work that has been invested in our participants. We are so very fortunate to be part of this wonderful partnership. SUGA Productions is seriously considering hiring one of the interns from cohort 7. We recognize that 100% of the interns who start with SUGA Productions do finish at SUGA Productions while completing 200 or more hours as an intern.

Longwood Prep Career Day - March 2024

On March 6th the Economic Mobility team had the pleasure of attending the college and career fair at Longwood Preparatory Academy. There we engaged with enthusiastic High School students who were eager to explore various career paths. The curiosity and ambition in their eyes was contagious! The guests shared invaluable insights and represented various fields from colleges, trade schools and potential employers. We loved the variety of professionals represented including the awesome, Mo Brown Suga, who is KILLING it in the media space. Make sure to tune in to Season 2 of her show "Mo Brown's Bodega" streaming now on YouTube! Kudos to Luis Rodriguez and the organizers for creating an environment where students could envision their dreams taking shape.

Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow

Message from Daniel Marté

Lol it's really been a pleasure working for you Mo! I appreciate all the gems and the opportunity to be in new spaces I couldn’t have found myself in any other way. I’m grateful to have heard your story and witness your journey through your own art forms. I admire your devotion and more importantly your authenticity! You create with a purpose and for that I hold you in high regards as an artist and a professional in your field. You granted me a new perspective of the industry and made me feel like I can navigate through it and achieve my own goals. Thank you for inspiring me and  obviously I want to to stay in touch! I’m just a call or text away. I’ve never done an internship before so I’m just figuring out the whole conclusion part of it as I go, but if you ever need some freelance work done or extra assistance with anything I’ll always find time for your cause. Even if you need me to just pop out to your events for support I’m happy to swing by! Don’t be a stranger and thank you again for taking me under your wing.

I did it without a degree! I want to thank Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow for providing me a chance to get on track for a successful career in the digital marketing field and allowing me the privilege of interning for Mo Brown Suga and her award-winning multi-media company, Suga Productions. Studying the fundamentals of digital marketing through OBT and graduating from their 2023 DM Cohort prepared me for my application and interview process for Google's Digital Marketing Apprenticeship, which I got accepted to! With the help of our amazing Multiverse coach, Giselle Hernandez, my peers and I have completed our bootcamp training and officially began working in-office with our respective Google teams this week. Grateful for all the amazing people I’ve met on this journey so far. One day at a time!

Daniel

Aneesa Thomas

Social Activist

For the first time I had the pleasure of being a production assistant for a short film titled Right to Privacy. This production is helping to educated and support the protection of abortion rights. The amount of research and effort being conveyed in this piece is highly shown and I can't wait for it's release.

I would also like to thank all the cast and crew for making this film come to life and for giving a young activist like me the chance to be apart of it. The amount of knowledge and experience I've obtained from this project has been tremendous and words alone can't express my gratitude. Furthermore, I have to give recognition to Mrs. Mo Brown Suga for uplifting me and seeing the potential that I hold within. Without her guidance and wisdom this journey would have never been possible. In addition, Julie Herlocker, Josephine Cashman, Nancy Nagrant, Rachel Mann, Saro Varjabedian, Keaton Morris-Stan and so many other extraordinary people have become important role models and figures in my life that their presence will never be forgotten.

I encourage everyone to view this film during its release and to spread its message.
